Hiking flooded Allatoona
So I took this picture Saturday but this is what the lake has looked like all week. Those bouys that you see in the middle of the picture are actually located on narrow one lane wide walkway out to the trees. Folks usually are out on the path fishing. The paved path is normally about 5-7 feet above the water.
We tried to go on our normal hike yesterday and our path was under water in several places so we had to detour. 2 of our normal 4 hikes are closed because they are under lake water. This particular path is by the lodge and goes in a paved loop near the lake
See the boat ramp out there. You usually walk DOWN to it. It is not normally floating horizontally. The sign also indicates just how covered up everything is.
Hard to see but in the distance is a sign off in the middle that marks part of our daily hiking trail. We had to back track and hike above on the yellow blaze trail. We are going to try another hike today to see if we can get around the lake in some other places and take some more shots. We got another 3 inches of rain yesterday, but when we talked to folks before that rainfall that hike was not flooded. We'll see today. No rain predicted this week.
I took this shot at lunch time on Wednesday, when Wood mentioned I had better go take a look. The boat launch is under water as you can tell from how buried the trees are out there.
